A native of Madhya Pradesh, Ramesh Tekam is a well known folk artist from India whose artworks have made it to many prestigious international spaces and galleries.
In his early days and childhood, his mind was strongly influenced by the beautiful forests and herds of wild elephants near his village of Patangarh. Their majestic presence left a lasting impression on him. This influence was later reflected in his serene, patterned elephant compositions that have gained him so much appreciation and fame. Bold, confident strokes and bright colours are what made his art stand out. One of Ramesh Tekam’s most famous works of art is an iconic blue elephant on display at the Museum of Mankind (IGRMS) that cinematicizes tranquility and tradition. Through vibrant colors and intricate hatching motifs (like beehive or paddy), he captures Gond's natural narratives and cultural rhythms with tender precision. The beautiful repetitive patterns of traditional Gond art are kept alive in each of his compositions, making sure this tribal art from Madhya Pradesh makes it to different corners of the globe. Often invited to conduct workshops, his greatest joy lies in inspiring children and spreading Gond art beyond tribal roots.
