About the Artist

Born in the Gond-dominated village of Patangarh, Kaushal Prasad Tekam was surrounded by stories long before he learned to hold a brush. In his childhood, trees were not just trees, they were ancestral beings, guardians of the forest; birds were messengers, and animals were companions in both daily life and mythology. These impressions seeped deeply into him, and when he finally began painting, the imagery came naturally.

As an artist Kaushal’s journey was shaped by guidance from Gond masters, including Anand Singh Shyam. He refined his technique, learning to weave the fine linework and dotted detailing that has become Gond’s signature. What sets Kaushal apart is his mastery of tonal contrast, particularly his use of layered blacks. By varying shade and density, he creates an almost sculptural depth, turning birds, fish, and trees into richly alive presences. His acclaimed work “A Collective of Birds” demonstrates this skill, an entire flock rising out of rhythmic patterns, simultaneously abstract and lifelike.

Over the years, Kaushal’s paintings have travelled across India in exhibitions and art fairs. Each piece reflects not just his craft but his storytelling instinct — the forest as a world teeming with interconnected lives. His art is quiet but powerful, celebrating the Gond worldview where nature is divine, cyclical, and eternal.

Forest Animals

Four wild boars press together in a tightly packed, overlapping group in this handmade painting by Kaushal Prasad Tekam, their stout bodies rendered in earthy bands of brown, ochre, orange, blue and mauve, each band filled with dense rows of short dash marks that give every surface a richly textured, woven quality. The animals face in different directions, their leaf-shaped ears, expressive eyes and curling tails giving each one a distinct personality despite the uniformity of the palette. The overlapping arrangement compresses the four figures into a single, almost sculptural mass, their bodies merging at the edges in a visual metaphor for the closeness and collective movement of a herd. Painted in acrylic on paper against a warm peach ground, the work captures the Gond understanding of forest animals not as isolated specimens but as creatures that move, rest and exist as a group, their bodies and fates bound together. The earthy, autumnal palette of brown, ochre, orange and blue gives this original artwork a warm, grounded quality that feels drawn directly from the forest floor, the muted tones creating a colour harmony that is both sophisticated and deeply organic. Kaushal Prasad Tekam's dash-work technique builds every band of colour from thousands of individually drawn short marks, creating a surface density that rewards close viewing and distinguishes this handcrafted painting from any printed reproduction. As a piece of Indian art, every boar, every band and every dash was created entirely by hand, carrying an authenticity and individuality that mass-produced prints cannot replicate. This painting holds compelling appeal as distinctive wall art for contemporary home decor and as a culturally significant collectible from the living traditions of Gond tribal painting, available on Rooftop. ### Why This Artwork Stands Out ### - Every band and dash mark is applied entirely by hand by Kaushal Prasad Tekam, making this a unique original artwork of exceptional handcrafted detail. - The tightly packed, overlapping composition of four wild boars creates a powerful sense of herd movement and collective energy rooted in Gond forest observation. - The warm, earthy palette of brown, ochre, orange and blue gives the work a grounded, organic presence that complements a wide range of home decor and wall art settings. - As an authentic Gond painting by a practising master artist, this artwork carries significant cultural relevance and enduring collectible value.

Gond Folk Community

Rows of human figures fill this handmade painting by Kaushal Prasad Tekam, their bodies rendered in teal, brown, orange and purple, each one built from dense, fine hatching that gives every figure a rich, textile-like surface texture. The composition is arranged in three horizontal tiers: at the top, larger figures stand and move with authority, one playing a drum, another holding maracas, a child perched on shoulders, while the middle and lower tiers show progressively smaller figures linked arm to arm in a long, undulating chain of communal dance. The figures wear garments in alternating teal and brown, their orange and purple faces turned in profile, their postures rhythmic and synchronised, as though the entire community is moving to the same beat. Painted in acrylic on canvas, the work documents a Gond communal celebration with the specificity and affection of an artist recording something sacred: the moment when individual bodies dissolve into collective rhythm. The repetition of the dancing figures across three tiers gives this original artwork a visual rhythm that mirrors the musical rhythm being depicted, the rows of moving bodies creating a pattern as decorative and compelling as any abstract design. The palette of teal, brown, orange and purple is both warm and sophisticated, the figures' hatched surfaces giving them a solidity and presence that anchors the celebratory energy in something physical and real. Kaushal Prasad Tekam's fine hatching technique covers every figure with meticulous, hand-drawn lines, each one placed with the patience and precision of a master practitioner. As a piece of handcrafted Indian art painted on canvas, every figure and every hatch mark was created entirely by hand, carrying an authenticity that printed reproductions cannot approach. This painting holds exceptional appeal as a statement piece of wall art for contemporary home decor and as a collectible of deep cultural significance, preserving the communal traditions of Gond tribal life, available on Rooftop. ### Why This Artwork Stands Out ### - Every figure and hatch mark across the entire multi-tier composition is drawn entirely by hand by Kaushal Prasad Tekam, making this a unique original artwork of remarkable scale and handcrafted detail. - The processional, rhythmic arrangement of dancing figures across three tiers captures the spirit of Gond communal celebration with vivid, documentary specificity. - The warm palette of teal, brown, orange and purple creates a sophisticated, festive presence that makes a powerful statement in any wall art arrangement or home decor setting. - As an authentic Gond painting on canvas by a practising master artist, this artwork carries exceptional cultural significance and strong collectible and investment value.
